The Municipality of Paralimnii - Deryneia informs that on the weekend 3 and 4 May 2025 at Fig Tree Bay beach in Protaras the European Open Water Swimming Competition will be held in cooperation between the Municipality of Paralimnii - Deryneia and the European Swimming Federation and the Cyprus Swimming Federation.

Sixty-plus swimmers from 16 European countries will take part in the Open Water Leg 1 event on Saturday 3 May 2025. This event is part of the official calendar of the European Swimming Federation. Also on Sunday 4 May, the Protaras International Open Water Marathon will take place.

The event has international appeal and contributes to the promotion of the region's tourism. At the same time it contributes to the promotion of our culture and the natural beauty of Cyprus.

Therefore, the Municipality of Paralimni - Derynia informs that on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May, for the safety of athletes and swimmers, the public will not be allowed to swim at Fig Tree beach from 6:00 am until the end of the race (the race is expected to finish at 11:00 am).

At the same time and for short periods, the pedestrian walkway in front of Fig Tree Beach will be affected, while a large part of the central parking area of Fig Tree Bay beach will remain closed for parking from Thursday 1 May until Sunday 4 May 2025 in order to hold the event.

We ask the public to comply with the instructions of the competent authorities and the organisers.
