The Municipality of Paralimni - Derynia informs that the Department of Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Municipality and the Ecclesiastical Committee of the Parish of Frenarous, proceeded to the start of the conservation works of the old Church of Archangel Michael in the Municipal District of Frenarous.

The works include the maintenance and insulation of the roof, as well as the restoration of the internal and external masonry, in order to protect the church from humidity and preserve its architectural value.

The old church of Archangel Michael is located in the centre of the Municipal District of Frenaros, next to the newer Holy Church. It is a church of remarkable architecture, with well-preserved masonry, a single-aisled church of a convoluted cruciform type with a dome. Based on the style of the unique surviving fresco of Archangel Gabriel, as well as morphological elements such as the semicircular arches and arches, the church dates back to the 12th century.

The Municipality of Paralimni - Derynia expresses its thanks to the Department of Antiquities and the Deputy Ministry of Culture for their immediate response to the need to preserve the historical monument, stressing the importance of saving our cultural heritage.
