The Municipality of Paralimnii - Dherynia welcomes today's (8/9/2025) announcement by the President of the Republic Mr. Nicos Christodoulides for the establishment of a Provincial Education Office in Paralimni and the signing of the contracts for the construction of a new high school in Paralimni worth 15 million euros, which will include a 400m eight-lane track and field with a tartan track.

These are two important decisions of the Government which came about after ongoing efforts of the Municipality and the Paralimnii - Deryneia School Ephorate and are added to the already completed building and seismic upgrading and expansion of the Paralimnii Gymnasium, at a cost of 5.5 million euros.

During his greeting at the visit of the President of the Republic and the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth to the Paralimnii High School, the Mayor of Paralimnii - Dherynia Mr. George Nicolettos noted that their presence, on the occasion of the start of the new school year, is of particular importance, as it sends a strong message of support to the educational community.

He also stressed that the signing of the contract for the design of the second Paralimni Gymnasium marks the beginning of the implementation of a long-standing and historical demand of the Municipality and the local community, a project that will provide a definitive solution to the problem of overcrowding of the existing school and at the same time lays the foundations for the creation of a modern educational centre, which will also house the sports high school of Famagusta.

He expressed his sincere thanks to the Ministry of Education, the Government and the Paralimnii-Derynia School Ephorate for their efforts and practical support, expressing the hope that construction work will begin within 2026.

He also referred to the importance of creating an autonomous Provincial Education Office in Paralimni, which will allow for a more substantial and direct involvement with the educational issues of the region.
