Crowds of people in Paralimni for the big Carnival Parade of Famagusta

More than three thousand carnivalists and about 25 thousand spectators participated or watched the great Carnival Parade which culminated the Famagusta Carnival in Paralimni.

The parade started at 2 o'clock in the afternoon in the main streets of Paralimni and more than three thousand young and old carnivalists participated in it with groups that had as main theme the impressive appearances, the humorous mood and satire.

The central float is that of the King of this year's Carnival, the popular actor Alkis Christou who embodied the "King of the Seas" or "AquaKing" while the Mayor and the Municipal Council of Paralimnii - Deryneia paraded with the "Ship of Unity" which symbolizes the unity that characterizes the Municipal Council of Paralimnii - Deryneia after the reform of local government and the unification of the four municipal districts, Paralimnios, Deryneia, Frenarus and Acheritos.

In his statements the Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia Mr. George Nicolettos did not fail to thank the Carnival Committee, the Cultural Service, the Cultural Committee, the Municipal Council, the staff and volunteers who worked for the flawless organization of the Famagusta Carnival, expressing particular gratitude to the King of Carnival, Alkis Christou. He stressed that the Carnival has established itself as an institution, offering joy and renewal to residents and visitors, while assuring that the Municipality continues with vision and will to continue its work.

On Saturday evening, March 1, the traditional evening parade took place in Paralimni, which ended at St. George Square where the traditional party of the eve of the big parade took place.

The organization of the Famagusta Carnival is the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia.
