Instructions to participants of Famagusta 2025 Carnival Events in Paralimni

Night Parade (Saturday 01.03.2025)

  1. The Night Parade is organized on Saturday 1 March 2025 at 20:00 from Tasou Markou Street to Agios Georgios Square and ends with a party in Agios Georgios Square.
  2. During the night foot parade no floats participate but only pedestrians with a free theme.
  3. There will be loudspeakers along the street so that the music can be heard better.
  4. Participants are responsible for their own safety and that of persons they accompany.
  5. Participants are obliged to follow the instructions of the organisers and the officials of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia.

Carnival Parade (Sunday 02.03.2025)

  1. The Carnival Parade starts at 14:00 from the 2nd Primary School of Paralimni and ends at the junction of Agios Georgios, Archbishop Makarios III and Grivas Digenis streets.
  2. The gathering of the teams will take place at the B' Primary School of Paralimni and there will be a specific place for the parking of each team with the appropriate number of appearances.
  3. The chariots must be on site no later than 11:00 am.
  4. Walking groups must be at the site no later than 12:30. At 12:00 the roads are closed and the arrival of the groups is the responsibility of the participants.
  5. Teams should be assembled at the starting area to make it easier for the organisers to give the starting instructions.
  6. There will be an ambulance in the parking area next to the Municipal Hall of Paralimnii - Deryneia, an ambulance in the courtyard of the Second Primary School and members of the Civil Defence who will attend as first aid crews.
  7. It is recommended that participants bring water with them.
  8. Children must be supervised by their parents/guardians or an authorised representative of the group in which they are participating.
  9. No specific song is given to each set. All songs are in carnival rhythms (beats).
  10. There will be no pronunciation for each set as it passes in front of the officials. The announcer will call out the names of the ensembles in the parade at the beginning.
  11. The floats and teams must start as soon as indicated by the parade coordinator.
  12. There will be no sponsorship of carnival floats or any other kind of subsidy to the organisers.
  13. The order of appearance and ranking of the groups is determined by the Organizing Committee of the Famagusta Carnival and when and whenever necessary it has the power to conduct a draw to determine the order.
  14. After the parade the carnivalists can enter through a special route to St. George Square where the party will continue.

OBLIGATIONS/PROHIBITIONS/PENALTIES

Obligations

  1. It is understood that by registering, teams must comply with the terms, conditions and obligations set by the organisers.
  2. Teams must participate with the topic they have submitted a declaration for.
  3. Participants must participate in the appropriate uniform as defined by the group theme.
  4. Participants are obliged to show the Organizing Committee the carnival costume with which they will participate and the float.
  5. Participants are obliged to inform the Organizing Committee with the name and contact details of the person in charge as well as the name and contact details of the driver who must be an adult and have a corresponding Driving Licence for the vehicle he/she will be driving.
  6. The order of participation as determined by the organizing committee must be respected.
  7. Trolley drivers must maintain a low speed and ensure the safety of pedestrians and the public. Operation of the float is the sole responsibility of the operator/driver and the team coordinator.
  8. In the case of persons on a float, their safety is the sole responsibility of the float operator/driver and the team coordinator.
  9. Safe movement to and from the parade area is the sole responsibility of the team coordinator, while in the case of minors, the parents and guardians or an authorized person of the team are responsible.
  10. The safe movement of the float to and from the parade area is the sole responsibility of the operator / driver who is obliged to observe the Road Traffic Code, not to obstruct traffic and not to cause danger to passing vehicles and passers-by. In the case of large vehicles, it is recommended that the police be informed in advance and that they be moved during low traffic hours (early morning hours).
  11. The chariots are obliged to keep the distance indicated to them, i.e. in no case more than fifteen metres from the leading group. Failure to do so may result in the team being cancelled and removed from the parade or prohibited from participating in the next parade.
  12. The drivers of the vehicles after descending from St George Street must follow the route to Grivas Digenis Street and then to Tasou Markou Street where they must leave the traffic lights of the Kokkinos Supermarket. It is forbidden to cross the road from other points.
  13. Participants are responsible for their own safety and that of persons they accompany.
  14. Participants are obliged to follow the instructions of the organisers and the officials of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia.
  15. The buses that will pick up the participants should be parked either in the large parking area of the private school Xenion, or on Agios Dimitrios Street.

Prohibitions

  1. The use of prohibited chemicals, smoke explosives, fireworks, firecrackers, firecrackers or other dangerous devices or appliances which may pose a risk to public health is expressly prohibited. In cases of non-compliance with the above, the organising committee reserves the right to report specific incidents to the Police.
  2. Abusive slogans or inappropriate expressions and images on tanks and uniforms are prohibited.
  3. The use of foam spray is prohibited.
  4. The distribution of advertising or other leaflets is prohibited.
  5. The display and listing of sponsors / advertisers is prohibited.
  6. It is prohibited to display slogans of a political, fan or other nature that are likely to cause a reaction or offend specific social, political, cultural, ethnic, racial groups or characteristics of people.
  7. It is forbidden for people from one group to enter another. Each group must march separately.
  8. It is forbidden to stop the team during the parade. The distance between groups must not exceed twenty (20) meters.
  9. Animals are not allowed in the parade.
  10. Participants will not take any actions that may harm the smooth running of the carnival parade that endanger the health of citizens or alter the image of the city's institution.
  11. Vehicles other than tanks are not allowed in the parking lot of the Second Elementary School.
  12. The participation of agricultural tractors, or dangerous wheeled vehicles that may cause a traffic collision or endanger the safety of the operator and/or participants and/or spectators is prohibited.
  13. It is forbidden to stop in front of the parade platform or at the finish line because it causes congestion. The floats must continue uninterrupted and the carnivalists must continue either to the party area or for their departure.
  14. Mixing of groups with each other is prohibited.
  15. It is forbidden for carnivalists to return from inside the parade route.
  16. By submitting an entry, entrants acknowledge that they may not have a requirement for a particular order of appearance or any other requirement as to how they should appear.
  17. Any failure to comply with the above will cause the cancellation of the participation of the cultural community in the institution.

Sanctions

  1. In case of acts or omissions on the part of the representatives or members of the ensemble or in case of breach of the terms and conditions and commitments, the Organizing Committee of the Carnival and the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia reserve the right to impose the appropriate sanctions decided by the Organizing Committee of the Famagusta Carnival.
  2. Sanctions shall be imposed on the recommendation of the Committee.
  3. The sanctions are:
    1. Reprimand of the whole.
    1. Removal of the whole group from the following year or for as long as the Organizing Committee deems necessary.
    1. If an ensemble commits the same offence repeatedly, it will be expelled from the Famagusta Carnival.

Management and processing of personal data

By submitting their participation, participants acknowledge that the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia processes their personal data in accordance with Regulation (EU)2016/679 (GDPR) and Law 125(I)/2018) for the purpose of examining their application for participation in the Carnival Parade. According to the provisions of the Regulation, participants have the following rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability and the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner. By submitting an entry, participants acknowledge that during the Carnival Parade there will be a professional photographer and that visualization and video recording will be carried out for promotion and promotion purposes in social media and mass media. They also acknowledge that the Carnival Parade will be broadcast live on a national television station and on social media.
