The existing Deryneia People's Market was visited today by the Mayor of Paralimniu - Deryneia Mr. George Nicolettos. The visit was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Dherynia, members of the Municipal Council, the Municipal Secretary and the Municipal Engineer of the Municipality.

During his visit, the Mayor had the opportunity to talk to producers and citizens who were shopping in the market which attracts a large number of visitors and is an important point of purchase of fruit and vegetable products and processed products.

It should be noted that the construction of the Modern Open Air People's Market of Deryneia by the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia is at a very advanced stage and is expected to be completed in May 2025. The project concerns the creation of infrastructure for the needs of the People's Market and includes the creation of covered areas for the sale of products, parking spaces including parking spaces for disabled persons and large cars (buses, trucks), the creation of a café, public sanitary facilities, the creation of a square, sidewalks and green areas, as well as the creation of a playground and the landscaping of the square.

The benefits that the project will bring to Deryneia and the wider Famagusta District area will be multiple and multidimensional. The project promotes the improvement and/or expansion of infrastructure to accommodate basic services for the rural population, including culture and recreation.

The project is part of the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, under Measure 7 "Basic Services and Village Renewal in Rural Areas". The project is co-financed by the Cyprus Rural Payments Agency and the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior.
