Strong Vote of Confidence in the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia – 90% Positive Rating – Findings of a recent survey conducted by the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia in September 2026
A recent survey conducted by the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia reveals unprecedentedly high satisfaction rates with the services and overall image of the mayor, the municipal council, and the municipal administration.
The survey was conducted in September 2026 by RAI Consultants and aimed to gauge residents’ satisfaction with municipal services, regional development, and residents’ priorities. According to the results, it is evident that the municipality enjoys a strong foundation of trust and positive evaluation. The overall image of the municipality is strong and well-established. Residents report high satisfaction with municipal services, acknowledge that the area has improved since the creation of the new municipality, and rate both the initiatives and the administrative leadership very positively. Trust in Mayor George Nikoletto and satisfaction with the work of the City Council are also at very high levels.
The image of the new municipality and its projects
91% have noticed projects and improvements in areas such as the road network, the waterfront, and public spaces. Of those who have noticed the changes, 91% view them positively, and 82% believe they have improved the city’s image and quality of life to a great or significant extent.
76% of residents believe that the area is now better or much better than it was before the merger, while 61% view the creation of the new municipality positively.
Evaluation of the Mayor and the Municipality's Progress
In response to questions regarding Mayor George Nikoletto, 89% of residents say they trust him very much or quite a bit to make decisions regarding the municipality’s development, and 89% say they are very or quite satisfied with his work to date. Ninety percent believe that the municipality is definitely or somewhat moving in the right direction. Furthermore, 84% agree that the mayor understands residents’ needs, 88% agree that he is effective in implementing projects and solving problems, and 89% agree that he has a vision and a plan for the future.
Everyday Services and Priorities
Among the services that residents rate positively, street lighting has an 85% satisfaction rate, waste collection 84%, organized beaches 83%, cultural events at 81%, and general cleanliness and the road network at 80%. Satisfaction with municipal parking lots stands at 60%, with sidewalks at 67%, and with parks and public spaces at 70%.
The survey identifies cleanliness (26% rank it among their top three choices), the road network (22%), parks and public spaces (18%), green spaces and sidewalks (16% each). The findings identify specific areas on which future initiatives can focus.
Equal service and response to requests
77% of permanent residents believe that the municipal district in which they live receives the same level of services and attention as the others. Among those who contacted the municipality, 81% say they are very or fairly satisfied with the service, and 74% with the speed of response; as for the complete resolution of their request, the percentage stands at 60%. These results provide insights for further improving the management and tracking of requests.
Protaras Riviera
The survey also revealed residents’ views on the new tourism development brand for the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia, known as Protaras Riviera. This is a new promotional identity for the entire municipality, which, although it was unveiled at the end of last May, has, in just three months since its launch, been positively received by residents. Eighty-two percent of residents say they are familiar with the new tourism development brand, while 72% rate the region’s new brand as very or fairly positive. It is also significant that 84% of residents believe that Protaras Riviera contributes to the proper promotion of the region.
The Municipality's Appeal as a Destination
91% of residents agree that the municipality is an attractive destination for visitors, 86% agree that the municipality cares about its residents, 87% answer affirmatively when asked whether the municipality is an attractive place to live, the same percentage agrees that the municipality operates effectively, and 80% agree that the municipality is modern.
Mayor of Paralimni–Deryneia: “Research is essential for the further improvement of municipal services”
When asked to comment on the satisfaction survey, the Mayor of Paralimni–Deryneia, Mr. George Nikoletos, expressed his satisfaction with the very positive results of the evaluation by residents of the municipality, while also noting that the municipality’s goal is not to rest on its laurels but to continually strive to improve its services so as to serve both its residents and visitors to the greatest extent possible.
He also emphasized that the goal of the survey is to shed light on both the level of citizen satisfaction and their priorities—which have been identified through the survey—as well as the services that have room for improvement.
Finally, he noted that it is particularly encouraging that, in just two years, the overwhelming majority of citizens view positively both the merger of the four local authorities (Paralimni, Deryneia, Frenaros, and Acheritou) into a single local authority, as well as the services and work of the Municipal Council—a result of the work carried out on a daily basis.
Research Profile
The survey was conducted using random stratified sampling by the reputable firm RAI Consultants, with 353 telephone interviews (251 permanent residents and 102 visitors) from the company’s call center, using a structured computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) questionnaire. The survey was conducted in September 2026, following a relevant decision by the Paralimni–Deryneia Municipal Council.
