Yannis Kareklas’s new book, “The Cyprus Issue: A Path to the Abyss,” was presented

On Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the Event Hall of the Paralimni–Deryneia Municipal Building, a presentation was held for journalist Yiannis Kareklas’s new book, titled “The Cyprus Issue: The Road to the Abyss (1830–1974).”

The event was co-organized by the Holy Metropolis of Constantia and Famagusta, the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia, and the Municipality of Ayia Napa. Greetings were delivered by the Mayor of Paralimni–Deryneia, Mr. George Nikoletos; the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou; the President of the Famagusta E.O.A., Mr. Yiannis Karousos; Archpriest Heraklides Xiouros on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Vasilios of Constantia and Famagusta, as well as the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Constantinos Ioannou.

This was followed by a speech by author Yannis Kareklas, who discussed the content and significance of his work, while the event was moderated by Mr. Marinos Pavlikkas, Head of the Cultural Services Department of the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia.

Yannis Kareklas’s new book is a work of historical documentation and political reflection that sheds light on critical periods in modern Cypriot history and makes a substantial contribution to the public discourse on the national question.
