The Municipality of Paralimni – Deryneia, following the adoption of the unanimous proposal by the Board of Directors of the Union of Municipalities—which expresses its strong concern and disagreement with the central government’s stance toward the municipalities and, more generally, toward local government— has decided to participate in the three-hour peaceful protest across Cyprus on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The protest is being held in response to the central government’s interference in the principle of local self-government and, more specifically, in the principle of the municipalities’ administrative and financial autonomy.
It is clarified that the Municipality will ensure, to the extent possible, the smooth operation of its services and the fulfillment of residents’ urgent or essential needs during the protest. The protest is peaceful, institutional, and assertive in nature and aims to defend local government, the Municipality, and its residents.
